A few months ago our church, in response to God's prompting, decided to begin planning a mission trip to Haiti. Our trip has been planned for July 15-25, 2010. We are taking a team of 15-25 people. Toward the end of December we began talking with people and encouraging them to pray about their role in this trip. Anticipation and a great burden for the people of Haiti had already been building within our church. So you can imagine how the recent earthquake and devastation has impacted the hearts of our people.
It is with great joy that we can share how we are responding with God's grace. Maybe you would like to join us in our efforts as we share the love of Jesus through our service, pockets, and prayers.
Our Immediate Response:
On our mission trip we planned to partner with someone who has been a missionary in Haiti for over 3 years, Patty Thomas. We are connected to Patty through her two sons who attend our church, Todd & John Thomas. Patty lives and serves in an orphanage right in the area of Port-au-Prince. The Sunday after the earthquake was a big day for our church. People gave from their money and resources to send Todd & John to Haiti. They left on Monday, January 18th and arrived in Haiti on Wednesday, January 20th. It's been amazing to see how God's people have come together to send help to an area in dire need.
How You Can Help:
Our church is collecting donations to be sent to the orphanage, the New Hope Children's Center. We will post the needs as we come to know them. Persons wishing to make a donation for Haiti Earthquake Relief online can do so through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries at www.ncm.org Checks can be marked "Caribbean Disaster Response ACM1204." And let's not forget about prayer! Please pray for Todd & John's mother along with all those in Haiti. Also, please join us in prayer for our upcoming mission trip to Haiti. The needs have changed since the earthquake which will have changed the specific needs along with our original plans.
